Solitary boy, sitting in the library
Reading his book, a biography of Trotsky
He doesn’t mind the fact that there is no one
No one here to talk to, no one here who understands
There is a girl, bringing up her family
All on her own, striving to be happy
She wonders why, why there isn’t someone
Someone here to talk to, someone here who understands
Is this what you wanted?
Is this what you’re fighting for?
Veteran George, sitting in his armchair
Watching them talk, of course he understands them
He may be old but he really isn’t stupid
Remembers what he fought for, remembers what has gone before
Is this what you wanted?
Life is what you make it - make it worth fighting for

I’ve been singing these songs since before you were born
All the words may have changed but the story’s the same
No I can’t tell you why and I can’t tell you how
But I do know that time will never stop me now
No I can’t tell you why it still attracts me so
I guess it’s one of those truths that we’ll never know
We were living at home, there was nothing to do
We had time on our hands and the radio too
We lacked a bass guitar and a drummer who played
But we found them both in a matter of days
We were caught by the bug in our sixteenth year
We were playing in pubs before we could drink beer
No I can’t tell you why and I can’t tell you how
But I do know that time will never stop me now
No I can’t tell you why it still attracts me so
I guess it’s one of those truths that will always elude me now
Phil would come after work dripping blood down his shirt
Rob was manning the pumps to make his way in the world
Sounds we heard in his room they inspired us all
And the bands that played, they were ten feet tall
We were doing our best to get our foot in the door
I’m still doing my best, I can’t do no more.

You know this dirty old town like the back of your hand
You know the places you can go
You know the ways to find a crust, you know the people you can trust
Doesn’t mean they’ll always show
But what will your family think of you if you don’t bring home their food?
You’re in a different part of town, you’ve been chased and you are down, and they never seem to stop
The last thing you see tonight is the light that shines so bright
Is the light that never stops
So what will your family think of you when you don’t bring home their food?

I'll Take You With Me
03:23
|
|||
Your summer dress is white your eyes are crimson red
These simple pleasures burn a hole inside my head
The cat is looking at me like I have no shame
The cat is smiling like he thinks it’s just a game
I’ll take you with me on a bus ride to the other side of town
You are a paragon of virtue in a world that’s upside down
I thought the world was full of taking and not giving, now I know that there are those who give their whole lives just to see the others grow
You are the one that people want to be around
I am the loner living in the underground
We’re looking through the windows, no one is at home
Are they in hiding, are we really just alone?
I’ll take you with me to my secret mountain hideaway
I’ve got a notion that you would come with me all the way now
We can walk through those hills and valleys I have sought but never found
I’ll take you with me, don’t go near the edge it’s such a long way down
So if you’re listening in the future now, try to get a message through somehow. Let me know that everything’s ok. Let me know that you are going to stay.

Shine Like A Star
04:04
|
|||
Restless, empty feeling when he comes home to you – it hasn’t been that way lately.
Something has been changing are you feeling it too? – the wounds are healing up slowly.
Do you feel the pleasure now it’s starting to mend – of putting it all back together?
Maybe it’s repayment for the things that you’ve done – do you feel the world is getting better?
Staring from your window at the stars in the sky, it’s like someone is treating you gently.
Searching for Orion as it asses you by, because you understand the things that move me.
Like a fire burning fiercely. Like the wind that blows right through me. Like the grass, swaying gently. Like the sun on my windscreen. Like a star shining brightly - you shine so hard.

Wherever You Go I Go
05:03
|
|||
There’s a place that lives inside me, there’s a picture hangs on the wall
And a door that’s never open, an empty begging bowl.
It’s always been this eerie, it’s always been the same, I’ve seen people pass right through here, never come back again.
Wherever you go I go, wherever you go I’m there, because I cannot exist without you – you’re the life I share.
Now when each mile is the last mile, and when each smile says it all
When the suits are hung in the wardrobe, you’ll tell me what you know. There’s a piece of me that’s still here, there’s a piece of me left behind. Staying to keep you company – it’s been a fair old ride.
Wherever you go I’ll go, wherever you go I’m there, because I cannot exist without you.

Hypnotise
05:22
|
|||
The moonlit path leads to the shore. You pick your way between the stones. The fire’s light upon the beach. The field of bluebells out of reach.
There is a danger in our lives. I watch the news about the war. The bricks fall out of empty skies - and I’m left wondering where you are?
Nothing’s certain in these times but I’ve been certain all my life – there is a path to take to lead us to the end game.
Look into my eyes. I won’t hypnotise but I need to know where the truth lies.
Nothing’s certain in these times, but I’ve been certain all my life. There is a path to take to lead us to the end game. Nothing’s certain in these times, times when you and I collide. There is a destiny and no one can fulfil it now but me.
Look into my eyes.

Help You
04:48
|
|||
I can’t imagine what you’ve been through
I can only be there to help you.
All those years of trying so hard
All those years of trying your hardest
You’d think that someone would be grateful
I really hope that I can help you.
And all those years your life seems over
All those years your life lies dormant
You cannot see into the future
You cannot see around the corner.
I can’t imagine what you’ve been through
I only help that I can help you.

Well it’s that time of day, it’s that time of year
When thoughts begin to stray, they stray away from here
So if you’re going aboard, it’s time to say good bye
It’s time to up and fly
There’s a siren’s call, trying to tell me something
I stumble and I fall, will probably come to nothing
So if you’re going aboard, it’s time to say goodbye
It’s time to up and fly
The sirens call my name
They say “come on down, further down”.

Rock and Roll Dreaming
02:53
|
|||
It doesn’t take a lot to live his life
He doesn’t see the value in endless strife
He just needs enough to sing and play his guitar
He reads about his heroes in magazines
And meets them all in his endless dreams
He needs to be careful of the things he’s wishing for.
‘Cos nothing is ever quite what it seems
He’s just another boy with a broken dream
He’s just another boy who’ll never find his dream
He’s looking to get across town today
Because his mother needs him to pay his way
But his thoughts are all of notes and rhymes and words
The job they give him is stacking shelves
And they tell him it’s good for his mental health
But within a week it will be driving him insane
‘Cos nothing is ever quite what it seems
The boss at his work is a crook and a thief
But he wines and dines the mayor on Saturdays
All the passion in this boy, all the wonder in his dreams
They will crush him ‘til he can’t remember
All the fire in his heart, all the stories he could tell
They will crush him ‘til he can’t remember
He’s looking to get across town today
Because his mother needs him to pay his way
She’s got problems that he really can’t imagine
She’s got a new man and he beats her up, she’s doing her best to cover up. She tries to explain but why should he understand?
That nothing is ever quite what it seems
He’s just another boy with a broken dream

The Charlie Tipper Rebellion (aka Arrest! Charlie Tipper) Bristol, UK
The band began life as The Charlie Tipper Experiment in 2013, releasing an album and a clutch of singles for Breaking Down
Recordings.
In 2015 the band became The Charlie Tipper Conspiracy for no real reason other than they thought it would be a good idea to keep people guessing as to what they were up to.
This happened again in December 2017 when the band became Arrest! Charlie Tipper..
